5:25PM - electronic music: an offering and some questions for all

Please realize, when I say electronic music, I hope you realize that consists of much more than techno.

Think things like aphex twin, lemon jelly, underworld, orbital, autechre, DJ Spooky.... some local options of reknown behing dahlia (ok they have a singer too, but the music is most certainly electronica) and auditory sculpture, solovox, copy, dat'r, jatun are more what I mean when i say electronica.

So part one:
If you're interested in electronic music, making it or enjoying it, you should join this new mailing list that hopes to encompass everything from events/free music/networking/gear talk/music talk/etc as it progresses.

Part two:
What do you think of electronic music? What is what you think based upon (ie what have you heard that you liked or didn't like). Are you against it conceptually? Why? Furthermore, whether you like or dislike, what do you think of music and vocals... have to have it? don't care? prefer not? etc. If you like the two together, how do you like it?

Primarily, I'm interested in having a discussion here about music pre and post these new level electronics that allow a mass of one man bands; what you think of this newer sound, what you think of what it means for music, what you think of what it means for the music industry, etc and so forth.

Anyone want to bite?

12:06PM - The Human Canvas Project is almost here... THURSDAY August 21st!!!

Tonight is our last rehearsal before the day of, and things are going GREAT!

We've all put a lot of time, effort and yes, even money into making this happen. It happens at the Fez Ballroom (316 sw 11th) THIS THURSDAY August 21st, and only costs 7 bucks.

This, of course, being many girls nude/semi nude onstage painted white, with video/images/etc projected onto them from 5 or so sources while my musical outfit, Sad Music for Happy Humans, makes thick mindfuck music that builds to utilizing dubstep/dnb/electro/live sampled drum beats. Since this is happening

Afterwards will be some sweet IDM/breakbeat music by the esteemed DJ Tan't, and longtime Portland music makers Ryze + Fall and DJ Harp will be giving us all some great LIVE Drum and Bass and Dubstep to dance the night away with.

I do hope you'll all attend, there is a great buzz going on about this show and I think it's going to end up being fabulous! But it will be moreso if YOU are there.... come say hi!

10:59AM - Hey Portland!

So I'm going to be in your town for 1 full week, April 11-April 16, to decide whether I want to move there.

What should I absolutely do while I'm in town? What neighborhoods should I see? Why do you love/hate Portland and your neighborhood in particular? How do you feel about the cost of living?

About me: Husband and I are 25, have lived in central Indiana, downtown Chicago, and rural southern Kentucky. Neither of us want to live in the 'burbs. We would rather bike/walk than drive, and want to live within walking distance of grocery stores, bars, theaters, etc. Would also love to have a small fenced yard for gardening and the cat. We're not really into any "scene", be it hipster, punk, or whatever, but get along with most types. No kids, no plans for kids.

Crossposted to a few Portland communities...sorry if I'm spamming your friends page.

4:57PM - Blasphemy Ball - Seeking Artists/Info

(x-posted a fair bit - but I promise not to be tooooo much of a pain in the arse.)

Hey y'all --

in light of recent personal events that call for a good old-fashioned bout of acting out, I'm gearing up to throw the biggest, baddest most blasphemous ball ever... tribal drummers for pagany goodness, fire dancers, suspension piercing scenes, fetish artists, and I'm going to tell people to come as their favorite perversion of faith. Any faith. All faiths. A big EFF YOU to zealotry, bigotry and other oppressive bullshite. One big night of heresy and hedonism, one night of focused, therapeutic (if mildly childish) rebellion.

So I'm seeking info on fire dancers, drum corps, DJs, suspension and other acts that lend themselves to the lewd and lascivious.

Also seeking info on large venues that are down with fire and suspension. Ideas? Wanna get involved?

In love and lechery - TD

There's not really a lot one needs to know about me. I am a Open Soul, a Sister, a Lover, and even a Slave. I am my own person. I'm not very girly, but I do like some makeup and dresses eps prom and wedding dresses. I have two prom dresses right now that I just love i wear them all the time to work when I feel good and my Endo is not acting up to much. I also like to get dirty and wear jeans, t-shirts, and just chill.

5:22PM - Volunteer extras with bicycles needed for film scene on Sunday!

Hey friendly Portlanders: Some friends and I are making a super-short film to enter in a contest of 30-second spots promoting bike-riding, and need you to help us make a scene of a bicycle traffic jam! No compensation, except the glamour of it all (and probably some snack). But it will totally fun and easy (bikes are at a near-standstill in the scene, so no fancy skills required) and a chance to make some cool new friends. I can't imagine it could possibly take longer than, oh, an hour and a half to do, since we only need about 10 seconds of footage. See you there!

- WHEN: Sunday, November 20, at 1 pm (definitely finished by 2:30ish)
- WHERE: the spiral ramp that connects the Morrison Bridge to the Eastbank Esplanade (see below* for directions)
- BRING: bicycle, helmet, your friends
- WEAR: no super-obvious logos, so we don't get in trouble when our film receives critical acclaim and mass syndication

It'd be awesome if you'd reply to this posting and let me know you’re coming, so we know if we'll have enough people. But even if not, come anyway!

*DIRECTIONS: The Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade runs along the east side of the Willamette, from the Hawthorne Bridge to the Steel Bridge. We're meeting and filming on the spiraling ramp that connects the Esplanade to the Morrison Bridge. Coming from the West side, as you're coming across the Morrison Bridge there is an early exit leading to the ramp. Coming from the East side, approach on Belmont and a winding path leads up to the ramp. Or, get on the Esplanade at another bridge -- Hawthorne, Burnside, or Steel -- and ride straight up/down to Morrison.

Excerpt from the Dignity Village Website.

The Katrina evacuees seem more deserving of relief than Portland's poor as the unused Washington Monroe High School building is quickly transformed into a shelter for hurricane victims and just as quickly returned to its former vacant condition when the Red Cross is ordered to stand down. Here's Helter Shelter from this week's Willamette.

At Dignity Village with the approach of cold weather we continue to build housing as per our mission and our Dignity Village Proposal, 2004-.

As images are popular on this site, we post a vintage photo of pipe-smoking Villagers and delegate Comrade K of the Association of Poor People in Nagai Park. Comrade K, incidentally, is digitally masked in this photo for his own safety as his organization frequently comes up against unscrupulous labor contractors and the Yakuza

Love for the people,

i had my truck broken into while i was inside beaverton honda/yamaha yesterday at about 3:30pm. i had to park on the north side of cascade because of motorcross jumping they had going and their lot was full. i was only out of sight from my rig 30 minutes and when i came back out to my truck i noticed the driver side door wasn't closed. found both doors unlocked (i remember locking them) and opened the door to see my glovebox open and everything a mess in the cab. the bastards took my full case of cds that was under my seat so they got about 60 cds, plus i had a bag of army camos they decided i didn't need. they left my nice nike snowboard jacket but decided to use my own framing hammer, that they found in the back seat, to pry at the dash around my cd player. they either got spooked or they decided to bolt because they only got one corner of the dash piece up around the cd player. they didn't even take the faceplate that was still attached. they didn't see my digital camera crammed between the seat frame and the trans hump so i was able to take pictures of the scene. they got my drivers side door unlocked by prying a screwdriver behind the drivers side door handle, the rubber seal around the door handle has been pushed in on the top left corner. there must have been 2 people because both doors were found unlocked.

"The Electrical Ink Blot Garden" is a new idea in interactive theater.

A spiraling, thumping, mind-altering bouquet of cosmic creation.
Imagine a TechnoDanceTheater.
Imagine an interactive play where there is no audience, only participants.
Imagine a performance that blasts into a party!

The Play is a journey through the chakra system; each scene is a different chakra…

::: The main character is your everyday Joe in our modern society who has extraordinary things happen to him:::

::: There is an emphasis on the poetic form, in the theatrical aspect of it:::

::: There is no stage, there are only environments:::

::: There are multiplots happening simultaneously:::

This is more than just a theater experience. It is two weekends of performance, art, music, play, dance, education, celebration and love!

An all night ecstatic dance party featuring Pitch Black (NZ), Antara (AUS), Bluetech (CAN), Michael Manahan (SEA), Rain, Manoj, and Luna and Solus (PDX)
